The original keto bulletproof coffee recipe is pretty simple. Discovered by David Asprey while on a trip in Tibet, the original keto bulletproof coffee recipe includes grass fed butter, MCT oil and coffee.
Let me tell you if you just put those ingredients in your cup, while it might taste okay, something magical happens when you blend it to emulsify the fats.
What is BulletProof Coffee?
Bullet proof coffee is brain food. People who limit the carbohydrates in their diet, mostly replacing those carbs with fat, need fast acting fats to stimulate their bodies to burn fat instead of sugar.
On a personal note, when I drink bullet proof coffee in the morning, I am not hungry for hours allowing me to extend the evening fast.
Keto BulletProof Coffee Recipe Success
To make a keto bulletproof coffee recipe successfully one needs to start with a quality coffee bean. Then grind it fresh. Some people even suggest starting with the roasting process.
Next you need actual grass fed butter. There are nutrients in that type of butter that simply are not in regular butter. And while David Asprey now suggests Brain Octane in his Bullet Proof Coffee recipe, a quality MCT oil will work just fine. (MCT stands for medium chain triglyceride) MCT oil is fast acting brain fuel.

This will spike your insulin and blood sugar levels because there are carbs in this drink. So if you are intermittent fasting, this might not be your choice of breakfast beverage every day.
Keto Bulletproof Coffee Recipe – Vanilla
- 2 cups plain brewed quality coffee
- 1 tbsp. grass-fed butter
- One tsp MCT oil.
- 1 tsp vanilla
Blend in magic bullet or blender. This will not stimulate an insulin response. It is my morning go-to drink for energy and comfort.
Keto Bulletproof Coffee Recipe – Mocha Latte
- 2 cups plain brewed quality coffee.
- 1 tsp 100% pure Cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp. MCT Oil.
- 2 tbsp grass-fed butter
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- Stevia to taste
Mix in the blender until creamy. This might stimulate an insulin response because of the cocoa powder as most cocoa powder has some carbs in it.
While some keto bulletproof coffee affectionados prefer unsalted butter, I find that salted butter provides way more flavor. Especially true when adding extracts. One that note, you can add other extract flavors, not just vanilla, to change things up in your morning cup.
